B to B Online states that tablet ownership has surged 44% over the past year.  This is amazing growth, far beyond anything we could dream of for the automation industry.  But what it does tell us is that it is a platform that bears watching, and delivering products that can take advantage of its portable form factor and ease of use.

Invensys has taken one of its flagship applications, EYESIM, and has made it portable.  EYESIM is  3D, virtual reality simulation software.  It facilitates training, new employee orientation, and provides a safe environment for plant start up, shut down and emergency simulations.

As part of the extension of EYESIM, we've made it portable, supporting both iPad and iPhone platforms.  This allows employees to leave the training area and experience an in-plant simulation, such as exposure to the elements, noise, or other distractions that impede learning.
