It is interesting that CI continues to be so top-of-mind. I recently (well, yesterday) participated in a #MESA Un-Conference session on Using Manufacturing Technologies to Support Continuous Improvement. This 90 minute session was to foster discussion between the MESA members (and interested parties) of vendors, solution providers and end users.
We started out with a definition of what CI is. Joe Sanguinetti of General Mills shared his
company's definition of CI, and offered some examples of CI tools used in manufacturing and supply chain. One of those tools is SmartGlance mobile reporting.
The group also discussed barriers to CI (for example, too much data clouding the core issues), ownership of CI within a company, and creating a CI vision that can be easily accepted and executed. Education of CI was a big topic, both from education the executives on the benefits that CI can bring; how CI goals/objectives can change over time (and likely, should); and how to start on a CI project that has meaning.
How about your own CI intitiatives? Have they been implemented? Have they changed with business climate, or more sophisticated toolsets used (EMI, Mobile, MES)? We'd like to hear from you! maryanne.steidinger@invensys.com.
